Pilates
Pilates is a little different at Milkwood Studios. With our small class sizes and experienced instructors, we are able to focus on technique and are acutely aware of the needs and limitations of each client in every class.
Restorative Exercise Groups
Our restorative exercise groups are for those who are rehabilitating from an injury, returning to exercise after a period of rest, pregnant or recovering from childbirth. They are also the best option for most over 65s. These classes combine Pilates principles and the rehabilitation training of our physiotherapists to provide client-specific, closely supervised exercises in a small group format.
Before commencing our restorative program, all clients undergo a thorough assessment and generally have between one and four private sessions before joining a group. Groups are limited to just 5 participants so we can offer you a new program every time you come in, and really get to know your body. This not only keeps it interesting but means both your brain and body get more out of your sessions.
Stretch class
Our physio-led stretch class utilises the Pilates equipment and taps into the multitude benefits of stretching your muscles and soft tissues, which are now well-documented. A strong, sustained stretch has lasting benefits for the muscles, their surrounding connective tissues (tendons, ligaments and fascia) and the small blood vessels and nerves which supply the muscles being stretched. Regular stretching has been shown to improve blood flow, flexibility, responsiveness and strength under load. The risk of injury during exercise is significantly reduced by stretching, and our 45 minute sessions are also a great stress relief.
