Dry Needling for Tendon Injuries
A recent literature review has shown that dry needling can be just as effective as more expensive and invasive injection therapies in tendon healing. Dry needling was compared to platelet rich plasma therapy (PRP) and found to have similar results in terms of pain, strength and return to function. Studies show that best initial approach to tendon rehabilitation is graded eccentric loading, guided by a trained physiotherapist; however if recovery is slow, we recommend the cheap, safe and relatively non-invasive approach of musculoskeletal dry needling. Our own Melli Tilbrook has extensive training in dry needling in addition to being experienced in the rehabilitation of tendons, including the Achilles Tendon, rotator cuff, gluteal tendons and patella tendon.
